Final Weekend Stretch

Here we are, only 2 days away from the most crucial presidential election facing our nation in this present day and age. The final weekend before election day has been filled with rallies and speeches for both candidates all over the nation. With only 2 days left to swing those last undecided voters to their side the candidates are taking every spare second to get them to join their side. Both McCain and Obama are focusing on the swing states, states like Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Ohio where the electoral votes int hose states could decide the victor of the election. It’s been a constant media blitz to keep up with the candidates and most of the media is sying that McCain is making a come back, but is it too late?

In my opinion it is not too late for McCain to win this. If he wins Ohia, Pennsylvania, and Virginia he will have a very good chance of winning the White House, however if he loses just one of these it will be a long night for him. Obama’s projected electoral votes are already close to the 270 needed for victory, at least according to the polls, so if he wins just a few states then he will pretty much have won the election. On tuesday we will see who the next persident is, whether it be McCain or Obama(I’m rooting for McCain) it will be an extremely close vote and I think we will have a record number turnout for voters of all ages. This election is crucial, so let’s not make any dumb moves America. Do your part, vote, be informed, and tell others. It’s up to you, the voters, to help decide the future of the country, both for the kids now and the future generations of kids. Please do your part and vote. Have a good day.

Last night the 2008 MLB World Series came to an end with the Piliadelphia Phillies on top once again! This is the Phillies first World Series win since 1980 and it was a job well done. they defeated the Tamba Bay Rays who rose to the top out of no where this season, making hte largest comeback in MLB history after having the worst record last year and then having the best record this year! What a comeback unfortunately thay Cinderella Story ended in disappointment for them. It was so close yet so far away, but they still put up a wonderful effort. So, to the Phillies congrats and to the Rays, maybe next year? Have a good day no matter who you root for.

Trick or Treating

Can you really be too old to go trick or treating? I’ve been wondering this over the past week since Halloween is approaching yet I don’t know if it’s “against the rules” for me to go trick or treating since I’m 16. Most of my friends will still be going even though it may seem weird but I don’t know if I can handle being the oldest one asking for candy. For me it’s more of an awkward feeling than a feeling of being “wrong” since it would just feel weird to be the only kid that’s older then all the other little kids that are out. I hate being in awkward situations so I think I’m going to sit this Halloween out and just stick at home and throw some candy at other kids. But Halloween does mark the beginning of holiday season, at least in my book it does, so get ready for the holidays! (maybe even some snow? ;)) Have a good day.

Abortion and How I feel

I know that abortion is highly controversial and I know that some people may feel that this post is not in my best interest I want to write this to inform people on my opinions and to gather feedback from other people reading my site. This is coming from an event I went to today that was a discussion of abortion and had two speakers, one was pro-life and one was pro-choice, and this gave me a new topic to discuss here.

So the basics on how I feel. I believe that abortion is wrong, I am very pro-life in all the aspects of the phrase. I feel that abortion IS the murdering of innocent babies, fetus, embryo, whatever way you want to spin it, the fact is that it is a living humn being. I feel that killing babies is completely wrong, how is it their fault that you decided to get funky with your significant other and so you are now going to have a baby? It’s not their fault so they shouldn’t have to pay for it. I feel that abortion should also be illegal, however it is also my fear that whether they are illegal or not won’t matter since girls will still find a way to get them and I fear that many will resort to back all abortions which are highly dangerous and often cause the mother to die as well as the baby.

One argument I heard from the pro-choice side was that of woman’s rights. The only thing I have to say to this is that I don’t feel like woman don’t deserve their rights, because they definitely do, but rather that having an abortion is neither a right nor priveledge. It’s something that shouldn’t be done no matter what, and that’s not because I want to take away woman’s rights but rather I feel it is wrong to do so. Also the woman said that men would force women to get an abortion, but what about the men who want to do the responsible thing and have the baby while the women wants an abortion. Is it not both of their rights to decide if the baby is born or not? I say equal rights or no rights.

Dirty TV and Movies

So the other day my youth pastor said that if you find dirty tv and movies entertaining then you are spiritually immature, and it got me thinking a lot about all the shows and movies I watch. Most of the time I don’t think much about what I’m watching because honestly I don’t really feel that it is bad for me to watch innapropriate TV shows or movies, however I do feel it is bad to watch porn. I don’t really think about how one person just slipped the f bomb on the movie or how some of hte people swear a lot on the tv, because it really doesn’t seem like a big deal. But after hearing this I started thinking, what if it is a big deal? What if these thigns which I hear and see everyday have an impact on me and how I act? It started affecting the way I was watching tv and I started noticing how often these things were happening. It was tough to go through a single half-hour sitcom without sexual refrence or innapropriate language. So, is that what we have come to? Getting simple entertainment from these things which have become so useless to us, are we that naive? After really thinking about it I started watching less shows and movies because it was so hard to stay away from this stuff. I didn’t want to subject myself to these shows. However once I stopped watching a majority of the shows I watched I noticed I had a large chunk of time available to me that I didn’t have before. So, I went back to the shows. I gave in. It was so hard not to watch tv or movies. In the end I guess it’s still not that big of a deal but now I’m more concious of what is going on and if a tv show or movie is too obscene I will now turn it off. So, that’s how I feel. It’s okay to watch as long as it’s not too bad, in which case I will not watch it.
